Quotes and thoughts from Peter Shankman’s keynote at Affiliate Summit East 2009

If you’ve never heard Peter Shankman speak in person, well, you should. Not only is he a dynamic speaker with a keen sense of humor, but he’s got a lot of great things to say, especially about succeeding at social media.

Thinking beyond the website

It seems that many companies are catching up with current web marketing trends. Rather than being 5-6 years behind the curve, they are only a year or two behind the curve in some cases. In fact, many companies I work with are starting to think beyond the web site — that is, thinking about how to promote their brand in other interactive channels.

So how do you think beyond the web site? Here’s are some things to consider…

Greater Richmond Partnership redesign launches

Last week, we launched the newly re-designed Greater Richmond Partnership web site. The Greater Richmond Partnership is a smart group of people that are very important to the area economy and job market. Their purpose is to attract domestic and international businesses that are expanding or relocating. Once businesses relocate or expand here, the GRP has a great retention program to keep businesses thriving. They represent the City of Richmond and the surrounding counties of Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico.

Do you know what web browsers should you test your site on?

As a follow-up to yesterday’s post on development for IE 6, I thought it might be appropriate to show you how to know if IE 6 (or any browser, for that matter) should be a consideration for your web development project. Here‚’s how to know.

Putting a price tag on development for IE 6

I read a terrific blog post recently at QuirksMode called ‚”State of the Browsers — IE edition.” Aside from predicting the future usage of IE browser versions, the article called for web developers to charge extra for IE 6 support.

New e-commerce site launch: Monif C. Plus Sizes

Last week, the new Monif C. Plus Sizes e-commerce site went live. Monif C. is a fashion designer in New York City, and her creations have been featured in Essence, TLC’s What Not To Wear, Ebony, Glamour and BET.com, just to name a few.

Completed in just about 6 short weeks, this e-commerce site runs on a customized Magento platform. Some of the best customer-facing features are the ability to browse the site in multiple currencies, a one-page AJAX checkout process, the ability to share your wishlist with others (so they buy you the right gift the first time) and cross-selling at the product level. Customers can create an account to store order history and track orders, manage an address book and check their gift certificate balance. To give customers the most options, they can either check out as a guest (without registering) or with their stored account information.

Behind the scenes, the site features the ability to process both web, store and phone transactions, full inventory control and much more.

See the site in action at http://www.monifc.com.
